Did you know most women’s lightning products contain hydroquinone, aka a bleacher?  Over the years skin brighteners have caused women permanent hyperpigmentation. Other health conditions include skin rashes, facial swelling, and exogenous ochronosis (discoloration of skin.) The FDA advised consumers not to use these products due to the potential harm they may cause.  There is however a natural option.  Kojic mushroom powder is a safe skin brightener.  You can use it daily to clean and restore the skin.  Kojic powder is a natural skin brightener made from mushrooms.  Our kojic powder soap is a safe alternative to harsh skin brightener treatments. Activated charcoal soap is great for acne, Rosacea, and red blotchy skin. Large face sweat glands and pores expel a lot of sweat, which releases toxins. Why do our products work better than heavy marketed store products?

Your skin is the largest organ in our bodies, comprising up to 22 sq ft (2 sq m) in surface area and weighing as much as 8lb (3.6kg) in adults. It comprises three distinct layers. The outermost layer, or epidermis, is the skin that we can see and touch.  That layer of skin is made up of cells called corneocytes that act as bricks that are tightly bound by mortar-like fats such as ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids.

Skin’s middle layer, the dermis, is about 90% of the skin’s thickness and consists of connective tissue, blood vessels, hair follicles, and oil glands, and collagen and elastin. The majority of biomolecules never penetrate the skin barrier.

That’s because skin is our body’s first line of defense against the outside world. Skin is designed to keep things out and to regulate your temperature and water balance, it protects you from disease and it maintains a microbiome balance of healthy organisms. Substances such as oils, silicones, and waxes found in many moisturizers are too big to slip through the epidermis. Instead, they remain on top of the skin, acting as emollient moisturizing agents.  Skincare companies are trying to produce dermis penetrating elements such as nanoparticals with undesirable health risk side effects. 

For a molecule to cross the skin barrier, journey through the epidermis, and enter into the dermis, it must possess properties similar to the skin’s surface. It must be lipophilic (or fat-loving lipid soluble) with a slightly acidic pH (between 4.6 and 5.5) – and have a molecular weight smaller than 500 Daltons, such as plant derived essential oils which are bioavailable to our bodies and generally safe when used according to the label.
